Knysna Community Police Forum wins award

The Knysna Community Police Forum walked away with the first place award for a second year running for CPF of the Year 2016/2017 at the Western Cape South African Police Services Prestige Awards ceremony held at Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town on Saturday, 21st October 2017.

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula handed over the award to Cheryl Britz, Knysna CPF Chairperson, in honour and recognition for their extra ordinary contributions towards and partnering with the SAPS in making communities safer together. The Knysna CPF was recognised for building strong partnerships with the SAPS, like minded law enforcement and security agencies and serving their community, facilitating regular meetings with all role players. In this financial year the CPF was also recognised for establishing good communication channels, such as WhatsApp groups with all neighbourhood watches and role players.

This event is held annually to recognise members who have gone beyond the call of duty in executing their duties. The event was also attended by the Parliamentary Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Mr Francois Beukman,SAPS Deputy National Commissioner for Human Resource Management and Lt General Bonang Mgwenya.

Cheryl Britz commented saying, “To be recognised again as the Western Cape Community Police Forum winners for a second year in a row comes down to our partnerships and our thanks and congratulations to our greater Knysna team, SAPS, Sub Forums, Neighbourhood Watches and all law enforcement partners.”

The Station Commander of the Knysna SAPS, Colonel Atwell Metu, also congratulated the Knysna Community Police Forum on behalf of the station management. He said: “We really feel proud with this achievement. It is an indication of the importance to build closer partnerships with the community, community safety structures and strategic stakeholders. These partnerships are of utmost importance in our fight against crime. We remain committed to working in partnership with all stakeholders in our commitment to fight crime”.
