Body identified

The body that washed up near Dolphin's Point in Wilderness on Monday 20 November 2017 has been identified as that of 17 year old Franklin Booysen from Thembalethu.

Franklin was last seen alive on Wednesday 15 November 2017. He was reported missing the following day after failing to return home on Wednesday evening.

Franklin's mother, Susanna Maswati, was not allowed to see the body for identification purposes due to the advanced stages of decomposition of the body. It was evident that the body had been in the water for extended period of time.

Blood samples was taken from Susanna for DNA testing, but due to the waiting period, the decision was taken to allow a neighbour to identify the body on Wednesday. The neigbour positively identified the body to be that of Franklin.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
