No rest for fire fighters

On Saturday 13 January 2018, several fire fighting crews both on land an in air are continuing to battle a number of fires in the Haelkraal, Ruitersbos, and Geelhoutvlei areas.

In the Mooihoek area, 5 Houses, 1 store room and 12 wooden structures situated in a valley are in the line of the fire. A combination of Pine, Blue gum and Wattle as well as other alien vegetation is hampering firefighting efforts.

The fire is approaching very slowly and a number of back burns to assist the firefighting crews are in place.
Fire crews are attempting to extinguish all active and visible fires.

A back burn that was initiated by MTO fire crews on Friday evening 12 January 2012 and continued to the early hours of Saturday morning has been successful in the Robinson Pass area.
Further back burns are being implemented, with local farmers assisting, and will continue in an effort to combat the raging fires.

A ground crew consisting of 68 persons started with mopping-up operations while continuing to extinguishing all visible fires.
On the Western line towards Bonniedale, on Cape nature property, 2 WOF ground teams were deployed on Saturday morning to extinguish hotspots and do mopping-up.
Weather conditions are favourable with a light to moderate South/ South Easterly wind at this stage.
