Bite wounds mistaken for bullet holes.

Although all indications were that 40 springbok were shot on a farm near the Jonkershoek road, further investigations proved that the animals were actually bitten to death.

Initial reports said that the 40 springbok on a farm near the Jonkershoek road died after being shot. That is what the owner as well as the SAPS thought. They were proven wrong after two of the animals were taken to a veterinarian for confirmation of the cause of death.

Tests done by the veterinarian surgeon confirmed that the animals were actually bitten to death. The task ahead is to determine what bit the animals, causing 40 of the 62 animals in a wildlife enclosure to die.

One of the woman involved with the farm said they are in the dark as to how the tragedy happened. They found a hole in the recent erected fence where a tuft of hair was stuck on the fence. They hope that the answer to the mystery can be found by determining the species to which the hair belong.

The damage is estimated at a quarter of a million rand.
