Two killed in Oudtshoorn plane crash

The pilot of a light aircraft and his only passenger died when their plane crashed near Oudtshoorn on Saturday 24 February 2018.

According to reports, the owner of a Cessna plane, Doug De Lange from Loodsfontein Farm near Graaff Reinette was flying to Graaff Reinette on Sunday 25 February 2018 when the plane crashed near Oudtshoorn.

At 3h30pm, an hour and a half after the plane was due to land in Graaff Reinette, the aircraft was officially declared as missing, and a search and rescue operation was launched.

Shortly after 7am on Sunday 25 February 2018, the Air Mercy Service helicopter spotted the wreckage of the plane near Oudtshoorn. According to a spokesperson, "it was obvious that there were no survivors"

De Lange and his unidentified passenger died on impact. The cause of the crash will be investigated by the SAPS and Civil Aviation.
