Search for missing person called off

The search for a student from Norway, who went missing in Sedgefield on 19 April 2018, has been called off.

Marie Ostbo (21) from Norway disappeared from Myoli beach in Sedgefield, a mere 100m from the backpackers where she was staying with other students from across the world.

Spokesperson for the South African Police service (SAPS), Capt. Malcolm Pojie said in a statement that although the search for Ostbo has been called off, members of the police will be visiting the scene on a regular basis as part of the follow-up investigation. He asked the public to please contact the police with any information that may assist in solving the mystery.

During the initial search for Ostbo, a cell phone, hat, and shoes were recovered from the beach but investigators were unable to find any trace of the missing woman. Although it was initially reported that Marie had a brand new camera with her at the time of her disappearance, it came to light that the camera in question was found in her room at the backpackers where she was staying at the time.

Speaking to reporters, Capt. Pojie said that no foul play is suspected.
