Panayiotou murder: middle man arrested

Former state witness and self-confessed middleman in the Panayiotou murder case, Luthando Siyoni, will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 9 May 2018.

In an undercover police sting operation Panayiotou payed Siyoni and amount of R4550.00, implicating himself in the murder of his wife, Jayde. At the time, Siyono was immune against prosecution as he turned state witness (section 204 witness).

Jayde went missing on 21 April 2015 outside Stellen Glen Complex in Kabega Park, Port Elizabeth. Her body was later found in KwaNobuhle. She was murdered execution style.

During court proceedings, Siyoni deviated from his original statements and refused to answer questions by State Advocate Marius Stander. This followed the about-turn by his then girlfriend, Babalwa Breakfast, who also deviated from her original statement to police. Both Breakfast and Siyoni was declared hostile witnesses.

Although a section 204 witness is expected to be truthful about the events, and is also expected to answer all questions, Siyoni was instructed by his lawyer not to answer any questions that might incriminate him during the trail of Christopher Panayiotou.

In his judgement, Judge Chetty referred to Siyoni's testimony as lies, with the aim to help Panayiotou in his defence.

Siyoni was arrested on Monday 7 May 2018 and will be charged with murder.

In November of 2017, Christopher Panayiotou was found guilty of the murder of his wife and was sentenced to life inprosonment, together with his two co-accused, Sinethemba Nenembe who was also found guilty of Jayde's murder, and Zolani Sibeko was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder.
