Water restrictions amended

On 19 July 2018, the George Municipality changed the current water restrictions to allow the watering of gardens using a hand held hosepipe. People living in even numbered homes may water their gardens on Mondays and Thursdays between 3pm and 5pm. People living in uneven numbered homes may water their gardens on Tuesdays and Fridays between 3pm and 5pm.

Water restrictions for the George Municipal area are as follow:

• Watering of gardens using a hand held hosepipe and municipal water is allowed for even numbered households on Mondays and Thursdays between 3pm and 5pm. Watering of gardens using a hand held hosepipe and municipal water is allowed for uneven numbered households on Tuesdays and Fridays between 3pm and 5pm.

• Watering of gardens making use of sprayers and municipal water is not allowed.

• Watering of sports fields using municipal water is prohibited, with the exception of golf course greens, bowling greens and cricket pitches which may be watered daily between 3pm and 5pm.

• Filling up of swimming pools using municipal water is prohibited.

• Washing cars using a hosepipe and municipal water is prohibited. Buckets may be used. Commercial car washes are exempted.

• Cleaning of outside surfaces using a hosepipe with municipal water is prohibited. Buckets may be used.

• “OWN WATER” signage must be displayed where applicable and must be proven on request by municipal officials.

Applications for exemption of some restrictions may be considered on merit and the application forms can be obtained from the Department of Civil Engineering Services.

The Garden Route Dam level is currently 78.44%, and shows a decline of approximately 1.8% per week.
