Great Brak murderer sentenced

The man accused of the brutal murder of Tewie and Eurika in 2016, Lebohang Rethabile Lekoro, was sentenced after he was found guilty on two charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, and two charges of murder.

The final nail has been hammered into the coffin of 29 year old Lebohang Rethabile Lekoro, when High Court Judge Mark Sher handed down a double life sentence, as well as two 18 year prison sentences.

He was convicted for the Murder of 62 year old Eurika, and 72 year old Mattheus van Blommenstein Human aka Tewie in June 2016. The bodies of Tewie and Eurika was discovered by a family friend at approximately 6pm on 18 June 2016, after the couple had not been seen for a couple of days. Autopsy reports later revealed that the couple were probably murdered on 14 June 2016.

Following a thorough investigation by Great Brak Rivier detectives, assisted by the Da Gamaskop Cluster Detectives, the first suspect who acted as accomplice, 26 year old Thamsanqa Howard Sishuba, was arrested in Wolwedans, Great Brak River after forensic evidence linked him to the initial crime. On 12 September 2017, he was sentenced in the Mossel Bay Circuit court to two life sentences for his part in the murder of Eurika and Tewie Human. He also recieved two 15 years sentences for aggregated robbery.

On 26 August 2019, Judge Sher passed a hefty sentence unto Lebohang Lekoro who was finally arrested in Bloemfontein on 22 November 2018 following extensive investigation. He was convicted on Friday, 23 August 2019.

Brig Gerhard Jantjies, Da Gamaskop Cluster Commander, had nothing but praise and admiration for the manner in which the investigation team conducted themselves, sometimes availing their free time over long periods of time, to track down the final suspect.

The dedication and endurance of the team, consisting of Lt Col Johan Bothma (then at Da Gamaskop cluster Detectives) W/O Paulus Scheepers and W/O Gerald Rabie (Lead Investigator), both from Grootbrak Rivier Detectives, were vital to this successful conviction and sentence”, he said.

Western Cape Provincial management commended the team which went the extra mile to rid society from these criminals. They also express their gratitude towards the informers that constantly furnish the team with valuable information which finally led to the arrest and conviction of the master brain behind the death of the Human couple. They expressed the hope that these hefty sentences will act as deterrent for would be criminals to refrain from such acts of criminality.

- SAPS Media spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie
