Hoekwil photographs can portray a century of calendars

The Wild News and the Hoekwil 100 committee received about 300 photographs as entries for the 2014 Hoekwil Centenary Calendar Competition.
Paul Rixom, who is an accredited judge for the Photographic Society of South Africa, reduced the numbers down to the 50 best photographs.

Then Paul, along with members of the Hoekwil 100 committee, reviewed and discussed these photographs and finally decided on 13 photographs (one for each month and one cover photograph) that they thought would be suitable for a calendar to capture the spirit of Hoekwil. It was a very daunting task because of the very high standard of photographs submitted.
They also decided on an overall winning photograph. This was submitted by Andrea Paarman of Wilderness Heights who was delighted to have won the competition. She is looking forward to her prize which consists of a weekend for two people at the beautiful, four star Hildesheim Guest House in Hoekwil where they will be spoiled by Tony and Vanessa and will be able to enjoy the panoramic views.
The other photographs which were selected for the Centenary Calendar, were submitted by Karin Amm, Ria Olivier, Daleen Strauss, Inge Cross, Caryn Munting, Angela Gray, Bill Zurich, Liza Wigley and Neil Cross.
Visitors to the Hoekwil 100 webpage were also invited to vote on what they thought was the most liked photograph. The winner of this online competition was Marié Brown of George. She will receive a weekend’s accommodation at the beautiful Outeniqua Cottage in Hoekwil with Gordon and Biggi Stewart as her hosts.
The printed calender will be available in time to add to your Christmas stocking – be on the lookout for more information in the next edition of the Wild News.
