Hurrah for Hoekwil

Karen Marshall, Bosbosk Str, Hoekwil writes...

I should like to express my congratulations to the members of the Hoekwil Centenary Committee who organised the open Gardens in Hoekwil and Touwsranten over this last weekend. And to the home owners who went to so much trouble to show off their beautiful and varied gardens.
This event is part of the on-going efforts to raise money for the celebrations of Hoekwil’s 100th birthday in 2014, and it was gratifying to see how much interest it aroused, with a number of cars driving all the way from George to enjoy our beautiful village and some 16 gardens that were on show.
One garden which was extremely gratifying to see was Frankie’s garden at the last house of the new houses in Touwsranten, right at the end of the main road. Frankie has produced quite an amazing garden with plants which he collected from whatever source, and beautified the road in front of his house. Frankie has recently lost his job, but this didn’t deter him from putting so much effort into his garden. As he says “Plants and trees give life!” This effort should be recognized and encouraged among many more residents in Touwsranten. That would make such a difference in the township.
But in the meantime – Hurrah for Hoekwil and may next year’s open gardens show be bigger and better
