HOEKWIL PRIMARY WELCOMES 2014 LEARNERS

Mr Herman Du Plessis from Hoekwil primary welcomed the children at Hoekwil primary for the start of the 2014 school year on 15 January.

Du Plessis was addressing the scholars and parents of the learners in the “square” at the school. The scholars then accompanied their respective teachers to the classrooms where the teachers immediately started to compile registers of the learners, and discussed the programme for the day, and the year ahead.

The Wild news was at the school to take some pictures of the children arriving (some of them for the first time) at the school. Most of the children that we spoke to were excited about the challenges of being in a new grade, or entering a new era in their lives, with only two grade one pupils that were clearly not impressed with the idea of having to be there. The fears and uncertainty quickly made way for excitement with the meeting of new friends and the comforting welcome that grade 1 teacher, Estelle Nel, gave them. From the scenes we witnessed, it seemed that there were more sad parents than children.

School secretary, Antoinette Jonker, said that final numbers of scholars will only be made public after all the registrations are done, together with a head count. She did confirm that there are 15 grade ones.

Principal, Mr. Du Plessis confirmed that all the learning material has arrived in time and there will be no delay in commencing of teaching.

The Wild News wishes every learner a successful year.
